Earth Day Clean-Up Events

Earth Day Clean-Up Events

KBC participated in Earth Day clean-up events, which spanned from Las Cruces, New Mexico, to Pittsburgh, PA, down to Morgantown, WV, and over to Washington, DC. Over 75 volunteers participated in these events.

The volunteers focused on planting flowers and mulching, while others ventured deeper into the park to restore an area historically designated for Black visitors during the segregation era. Our efforts included cutting brush, cleaning and staining benches, and clearing and disposing of cut brush and logs by returning them to nature. Additionally, we picked up over 400 bags of trash.

Thank you to all the volunteers who made these events successful and contributed to making our parks cleaner and more beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

KBC Sponsors 2024 Regional Science Bowls

KBC is proud to sponsor the West Virginia Regional Science Bowl and the Western Pennsylvania Regional Science Bowl hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Energy Technology Laboratory.

The winners of Regional Science Bowls advance to DOE’s National Science Bowl in April 2024.

The Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition that tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics. Teams of middle and high school student face-off in a fast-paced question-and-answer format, where they are tested on a range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy, and math.

DOE created the Science Bowl in 1991 to encourage students to excel in mathematics and science and to pursue careers in these fields. More than 344,000 students have participated in the Science Bowl throughout its 34-year history, and it is one of the nation’s largest science competitions.
